Fundraisers planned for Florida man who needs second kidney transplant

I'm always happy to promote fundraisers for transplant patients because I know about the financial hardships that are placed on recipients and their loved ones in addition to the worries about the transplant itself. As the story notes, a kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. Even with health insurance, this Florida man faces significant medical expenses. He will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications for the rest of his life. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month, and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Thanks to the National Foundation for Transplants (NFT) for helping David Kendrick in his time of need just as they've done for other patients during their transplant journey, assisting more than 1,000 patients.

Volunteers, friends and family are conducting various fundraisers for Cape Coral resident David Kendrick, 30, who is waiting for a lifesaving kidney transplant.

There will be yard sales from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at 9350 Camelot Drive in Fort Myers and 1261 Viscaya Parkway in Cape Coral. Furniture, electronics, clothing, toys and much more will be available.

Friends and family are also planning a dinner from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at the Masonic lodge, 244 Santa Barbara Blvd. in Cape Coral. Tickets are $10, and the event includes dinner, an auction and drawings for various prizes. Tickets should be purchased by July 1.

A kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. Even with health insurance, Kendrick faces significant medical expenses. He will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications for the rest of his life. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month, and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

When Kendrick receives his transplant, he and his wife, Christy, and their daughter must temporarily relocate more than 250 miles to be closer to the transplant center in Gainesville, incurring substantial travel expenses.

To help offset these expenses, Kendrick turned to the National Foundation for Transplants for assistance. NFT is a nonprofit organization that helps patients raise funds to pay for transplant-related expenses.

Restaurant Fundraiser to Help Liver Transplant Patient

If you are in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area here's a chance to help with a fundraiser for Debbie Richards who desperately needs a liver transplant. The transplant will cost $500,000 and medications will cost approximately $5,000 a month. Thanks to the National Foundation for Transplants for helping Debbie in her time of need just as they've done to for other patients during their transplant journey, assisting more than 1,000 patients.

GTR Newspapers - Debbie Richards desperately needs a liver transplant but faces significant expenses. Community members can help with the costs by eating out May 14 and 21.

Richards, 55, was diagnosed with a life-threatening liver disease in 2003. Last year, she also was diagnosed with liver cancer, and doctors say a liver transplant is critical to her survival. She was added to the transplant waiting list in 2009.

A liver transplant costs approximately $500,000. Richards will lose her health coverage in 2011, and she faces significant medical expenses. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The medications can cost as much as $5,000 per month, and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

Because of her declining health, she was released from her job, adding to her financial strain. When she receives her transplant, she will have to relocate more than 100 miles from her home in Tulsa for at least three months to be closer to the transplant center during recovery.

To overcome these financial challenges, Richards turned to the National Foundation for Transplants (NFT) for assistance. NFT is a nonprofit organization that helps transplant patients raise funds to pay for medical expenses.

On Friday, May 14 and Friday, May 21, Rib Crib, 3022 S. Garnett will donate 10 percent of sales to help with Richards’ expenses. Woman needs financial help with her life-saving lung transplant

Knowing the financial burden of out-of-pocket expenses associated with a lung transplant, in addition to any insurance coverage provided, one of my mandates is to help others in need and I'm pleased to post the plight of Holly Julian here. Her approach to seeking help is unique and I hope it's successful. The following is taken from her web site Hugs for Holly.

Holly Julian is now facing the biggest challenge of her life: a double lung transplant at University Transplant Center in San Antonio, Texas.

To help offset the costs associated with lung transplant surgery, University Transplant Center recommended that Holly and Steve Julian look into fundraising efforts supported by a non-profit organization such as National Foundation for Transplants.

Working with NFT, Holly and her husband, Steve, immediately began developing a team of friends to help with the fundraising. From their initial selection of a chairman and treasurer, the team grew quickly to 25.

Early in the process, the concept of “Hugs for Holly” was born. One of the team members, Hayley Carman, recalled that Holly signed her e.mails: “Hugs, Holly” and she developed the slogan. Holly loves to greet people with a hug, it is her way of saying “I care.”

So, for all the love Holly has given and for her determination to stay alive, it is the team’s way of saying, we care and love her.

With the help of her own knowledge and determination and the expert care of the doctors and their team at University Transplant Center, Holly Julian has every expectation of living a full and meaningful life as a result of lung transplant surgery.
