Baby in dire need of lung transplant

LOS ANGELES (KTLA/CNN) - The parents of a critically ill baby girl in Southern California are turning to the public for help after doctor's said her only chance of survival is a lung transplant.

Katelyn Policastro is just five weeks old and suffers from ACD, an extremely rare condition that affects less than 100 people worldwide.

Doctors said her only hope for survival is a lung transplant.

Her parents made a public appeal to the media in Friday as their daughter remains on life support until she can receive a transplant small enough for her body.

But her mother remains optimistic.

"She's a little fighter. She just grabs out finger and lets us know that she's strong and she's still fighting and when she opens her eyes and wiggles around, it just gives us that much more hope that there's a possibility," Leslie Policastro said.
